STEM Like Me! programs provide students an introduction to family wage, STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), through hands-on activities designed and presented by local STEM, healthcare, and skilled trades professionals. These events are held at middle schools in the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsula region, and create a setting for middle school students to participate in hands-on activities with mentors working in fields closely tied to STEM careers.
Here are the basics:
- Most are a two hour (2 class periods) commitment broken up into 8 short small group presentations
- 2-3 minutes to introduce yourself and your path to this career to a table group of 6-8 students
- 6-7 minutes lead them in a hands-on activity that is somehow related to your work or field
- 1-2 minutes for Q&A wrap-up
