WSU GEAR UP will be hosting the 8th Grade Career Day for six of our middle schools in the Walla Walla region on March 25, 2019. The event will be held at Walla Walla Community College and 600 8th graders will be in attendance. The goal of the Career Day is to introduce students to career options available in their region and the education pathway to get there. Based on their interests, students visit three different career sessions throughout the day, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The theme of this event is Education; The Bridge to My Success. We are looking to present our students with a wide array of post-secondary educational options. We are looking for both specifics about your current career and general information about your profession. Feel free to also share appropriate anecdotes about hindsight decisions you have made with regards to your current
career pathway including how to make quality choices in middle school and high school that can positively affect your career choices and options.
The presentation style is up to each presenter. You are welcome to do your presentation on your own or bring colleagues and ‘tag team’ or co-present. Technology is available so PowerPoint slides or an online presentation platform is great. We will have access to WWCC technology for the morning but keep in mind it is a big campus and there will only be 2-3 staff members assigned to technology for the day so we would suggest that you bring a platform that you are comfortable with. Hands on activities are always welcome when presenting to middle school students. Classroom and presentation areas will be open early that morning so you are welcome to come as early as 8:45 AM if you feel you need more set up time. Each presentation session will be 30 minutes in length there will be approximately 10 minutes of transition time between sessions for students to get between presentation place.
