Your help is needed to make the Tri-Cities 13th Annual FIRST LEGO League (FLL) tournaments a success. We have enough local teams that we have split into two tournaments. One will be held on Dec. 1 at Chief Joseph Middle School (Richland) and the other will be held Dec. 8 at Ochoa Middle School (Pasco). Our local FLL teams have been preparing for months for our tournaments and their interaction with professionals like you is highlight of their season!
The key volunteer positions require a full-day commitment (7:30-4:30). Other volunteer positions exist for full-day and half-day roles. Volunteers will be provided lunch and a tournament t-shirt.
The process of volunteering includes the following:
- Create an account on the FIRST Inspires website (www.firstinspires.org)
- Select the Dashboard tab for “Volunteer Registration”, then event volunteering
- Search for a local event by zip code (99352)
- You can then select one of our local events on Dec 1, 8, or 15th.
- All volunteers will be screened according to the FIRST Youth Protection Policy. Once the screening is complete, it will be good for 3 or 4 years. Returning volunteers will simply need to accept this year’s Consent and Release form and select events in your area.
- Once you’ve selected one of our tournaments and passed the background check, we will be able to assign you a volunteer role for the tournament.
- Over sixty (60) tournament volunteers (e.g., judges, referees, registration, score keeping) will be needed to run these events. Descriptions of the volunteer roles is provided on the volunteer registration site. You do not need to be a robotics expert to be a judge or volunteer. The most critical volunteer trait is a strong desire to help the FLL and FTC teams have fun—we can and will train for the rest. If you’re not sure what to sign up for, please feel free to email me.

Note: Please consider volunteering and help recruit additional volunteers this year. Our long time Team Battelle FIRST Robotics Project Director is out on leave and unable to do the massive volunteer recruiting job he does each year. In addition, many of us are busy on Dec. 1 with the DOE CyberForce competition here on campus, so additional help is very much appreciated.
