Tri-City Union Gospel Mission began serving Benton and Franklin counties 60 years ago, providing rescue ministry to the broken, bruised, and needy in the Tri-Cities and surrounding communities. This may include housebreaking, basic training, socialization, etc. You may also need to transport the foster animal to scheduled medical appointments and/or adoption events and photo shoots as well as administer any required medications. Providing foster care will certainly be a rewarding experience as you are enabling the animal to go on to the greatest adventure – a place where he/she will be cherished and loved until a great forever home is found. Requirements: To be a successful foster parent, you will need a compassionate nature, flexibility, willingness to follow instructions and interest and/or knowledge of animal behavior. Cork’s Place offers a safe and nurturing environment where children, teens and families who have experienced a death can share experiences, support one another and find comfort as they move through the difficult process of emotional healing.

Volunteers are needed to facilitate these grief support groups for children ages 3 - 17. Support groups meet every other week during the school year and average 8 hours monthly.

The 30 hour training is designed to give volunteer facilitators the tools needed to work with children and teens as they move through their own healing process. Volunteers will learn effective, non-directive communication skills. After training, we ask for a 10 month commitment.

Characteristics of an effective group facilitator:

Teachable, passionate about helping children, nonjudgmental, tolerant of long silences and loud noises and are able to be physically active. Cork’s Place volunteer facilitators provide a supportive presence, while allowing the children to direct their own grief work.

The Communities in the Schools program works with elementary school students for dropout prevention.  Yes, that's right, the notion is to start early to make sure that students don't fall behind.  Because if they do fall behind early, it is hard to catch up later and can lead to frustration or inability to complete high school.  TBMMC is working with Communities in the Schools at Sacajawea Elementary to do math tutoring.  Volunteers are connected with a teacher and will set up a time during the school day  to work with students on math skills on a weekly basis.

 The chapter mobilizes local volunteers and resources to help respond to disasters across the nation and around the world.

Last year, our region:

Responded to more than 1,100 disasters. Reached more than 40,000 youth and adults with safety and preparedness training. Assisted 2,860 military families and individuals with emergency communications, welfare inquires and other services. Brought together 4,735 local volunteers who gave over 200,000 service hours of time and expertise.

The food bank also cannot use donated dollars to purchase non-food products like ziploc bags, toiletries, toilet paper/Kleenex, diapers, etc. These items are always greatly appreciated. Donated items can be dropped off at the Food Bank directly at 321 Wellsian Way, Richland between 7:30 am and noon weekdays.
